I Like Ike

Jason and I went on a date to President Eisenhower’s House, it was a really nice time to see where he spent his last years.  The bottom photo is a golf cart of sorts he’d use all around his farm and Gettysburg.  Mamie was also known for clipping coupons while shopping at the local grocer, I think that’s pretty neat.

Mount Vernon

Our family took a lovely field trip while on vacation to Mt Vernon and had a most gorgeous day.

This view hurts my eyes.

Loser!

C lost his first tooth at Great Grandma’s house in February.  Don’t be jealous of my rad photography skills!  ;)

Here is another photo showing off my mad skills.

Snow!

G enjoyed an early morning snowfall/dusting MD.

Onion Skin Easter Eggs

I used yellow and red onion skins to color some white and brown eggs.  I colored four white eggs with yellow skins, they turned an orangey brown.  Meanwhile I put in a few brown and white into the red skin mixture.  My white eggs turned brown and my brown eggs turned darker brown.  ;)  I would like to try with purple cabbage, it is supposed to turn your eggs green and blue!  (The egg on the top, next the two really dark ones is one, I dyed in the yellow skins.)

Tuesdays with Dorie: Lemon Loaf Cake

Might I just begin with saying, my husband LOVES LEMON CAKE.  I was really excited to make this for him and to see what he thought.  We gave the first piece a try, it naturally has a light lemon flavor but I decided to kick the flavor up a bit by adding a lemon icing over the top of each piece. YUM.  This would be nice to serve at tea with your friends.

Tuesdays with Dorie: Pizza Rustica

This was a most interesting dish.  The sweet and savory combination was just balanced enough.  I didn’t wait for it to cool completely, I did wait about an hour when everything else was ready to eat.  My first bite I was skeptical, but as I kept eating I really enjoyed it.  I would have never come up with this combination on my own!  Just another reason I’m glad I signed up for this group!

Tuesdays with Dorie: Irish Soda Bread

This was a very simple, easy recipe.  My eldest made it, with just a little assistance.  Very nice, quick break used as a side to our Easter lunch.  I am so enjoying making the recipes for our Baking with Juila group.

Tuesdays with Dorie: Rugelach

I really enjoyed making this, and would have never done it if I weren’t in a group.  This was A LOT of work, and then I baked them too long.  They were still good however…
